In a little over a decade I’ve recorded notes on just 47 examples of Syrah from the Marlborough region. I must confess to having been a little underwhelmed by most of them, but things are looking up. I’ve recently tasted four wines that scored over 90 points with two of them achieving five-star status.
Every year I invite producers to send me samples of their sweet wines. These are coded with the class name and abbreviation for the year tasted. This year’s code is “sweet 16” which is sort of appropriate because the overall standard was very high indeed.
