Floral finesse

Giuseppe Nada Barbaresco DOCG Casot 2021, Italy, AUD $89.95

There are numerous producers named Nada in the Barbaresco zone — in this case it is the Giuseppe Nada winery with the distinctive rose flower label. Based in the Treiso commune with plots in the steeply-sloped Casot and Marcarini MGAs (or crus), they are consistently producing wines of purity and finesse, this Casot Barbaresco from the exceptional 2021 vintage reaching new heights in quality. It was made with a long maceration on skins, ageing in oak barrels of varying sizes but never new wood, and with minimal sulphur additions.

This wine has an eye-catching, bright ruby colour of excellent clarity. The bouquet is particularly alluring with floral scents that are lovely and lifted, as well as pure cherry and raspberry fruits and a delicate dusting of brown spice — very pretty indeed. Exhibiting poise and finesse, the seamless balance of subtle berry sweetness, blood orange tang and gossamer tannins is exemplary, the wine fanning expansively to a delightful and lingering conclusion. This is already drinking beautifully although there is cellaring potential here as well. Gorgeous. (Cork)
