Wine of the Week AU
Box Grove The Weaver Syrah 2014, Nagambie Lakes, AUD $45
Roussanne is a specialty of this vineyard in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley, where they make sparkling and dry white roussannes, and shiraz-roussanne blends. This one has 3% roussanne.
There’s good depth of colour with a trace of purple, while the bouquet is quiet and reserved, with a steely, stony-mineral note. It’s youthfully taut in the mouth, with firm tannins and fresh acidity. The aftertaste confirms pepper-spice and freshly-turned earth notes, the aftertaste refreshing. It’s an excellent food wine, with the requisite structure, while its flavour won’t dominate. At seven years old, it’s extreme value. (Screwcap)
