Gusbourne Rosé 2016, Kent, England, GBP £49
Established by Andrew Weeber in 2004, Gusbourne, a member of the Wine Garden of England group, is a large estate with vineyards in Kent and Sussex producing a wide range of quality English sparkling wines and increasingly notable still wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Salmon-pink, almost provençal in colour this blend of pinot noir and chardonnay is superbly aromatic, fresh, with underlying toasty autolytic notes mingling with berry fruit; there’s a mouth-filling mousse of bubbles in a juicy-textured strawberries and cream style, no holds barred on flavour or energy, with a significant pull of real complexity and firm acidity, good balance and elegantly dry on the finish.
