Three newly-released Craggy Range wines from the excellent 2020 vintage reflect place as well as very favourable conditions through the ripening period.

The coastal Kidnappers Vineyard Chardonnay has a saline-seaside influence; the Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay has a richer, riper character typical of a hotter inland site while the Te Muna Road Riesling is a mix of floral and citrus that is distinctive and unique.

The Craggy Range Kidnappers Vineyard Chardonnay 2020 from Hawke’s Bay is a delicately-scented chardonnay with saline, oyster-shell, citrus, lime, hazelnut and subtle ginger flavours supported by refreshing acidity that helps drive a lengthy finish. A vibrant, high-energy chardonnay. (NZD $29.95)

Craggy Range’s Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Chardonnay 2020 is a pleasingly textural chardonnay with intense grapefruit, tree fruits, nectarine, baguette crust and toasted almond flavours. A rich yet vibrant wine that is accessible now but should mellow nicely with a few year’s bottle age. (NZD $39.95)

Finally, the Craggy Range Te Muna Road Vineyard Riesling 2020 from Martinborough is a pure, tangy riesling with lime, citrus, a hint of mandarin, white flowers and a suggestion of saline and oyster-shell character. It’s a taut, vibrant wine, with a subliminal hint of sweetness balanced by mouth-watering acidity that gives an exquisite tension. (NZD $31.95)
