Montalto Tuerong Block Pinot Noir 2018, Mornington Peninsula, AUD $70
Montalto is a showplace on Victoria’s picturesque Mornington Peninsula, with a wonderful sculpture collection set against a soothing pastoral landscape. Fine food adds extra dimensions, but excellent regional wines are the main game.
This single-vineyard pinot noir from Tuerong, in the warmer northern end of the region, is a shiny, ruby-coloured wine that shows herby whole-bunch scents and some floral notes surrounding ripe cherry fruit on the nose. It’s a medium-weight pinot with juicy, slightly sappy flavours, silky mouth-feel and very fine, gentle underlying tannins providing a soft finish without undue stemminess. An elegant wine of lasting flavour that grows more interesting with contemplation and air. (Screwcap)
