Framingham, a Marlborough winery that earned first place in The Real Review Top Wineries of New Zealand 2018, has just released a new range of wines called Nobody’s Hero. Ranging in price from NZD $14.99 to $19.99 they represent an excellent buy because they are made to the very high standards of the winemaker, Dr Andrew Hedley. Andrew doesn’t do ordinary. He makes top quality and often very adventurous wines, whatever the price.Nice to come across a marketing department that will not only listen to the production guys but will even allow them to christen a new wine brand.
In case you are wondering, the brand “Nobody’s Hero” is Andrew’s favourite track from an album by his favourite Irish punk rock band, Stiff Little Fingers. The band toured New Zealand earlier this year and with their help, Framingham cut a promotional video featuring Stiff Little Fingers playing Nobody’s Hero. You can see it here or at the end of the page. It also features Andrew (the guy wearing the John Lennon sunglasses) and the winery crew. Nice to come across a marketing department that will not only listen to the production guys but will even allow them to christen a new wine brand.
The 2017 Nobody’s Hero Sauvignon Blanc has good flavours and plenty of concentration. Some sweet-and-sour action gives the wine tension, although I marked it down slightly for being slightly syrupy. Nonetheless, it offers excellent value at this price. (NZD $14.99)
Finally, the 2017 Nobody’s Hero Pinot Noir is the best buy of all. It’s light, crisp and tangy pinot noir with a drop-dead silken texture. Apparently, it’s now Stiff Little Finger’s lead singer, Jake’s, favourite wine. (NZD $19.99)
