Spicy shiraz blend

Metala Shiraz Cabernet 2016, Langhorne Creek, AUD $23

Metala is a long-running brand, sourced from the vineyard of the same name since the 1960s. It’s great value: this one has smoky, spicy aromas and a lot of character for a wine of its price. Good depth of flavour, backed up by a solid grip, so it’ll take some age well. (Screwcap)

2016 was decent, if a bit r”new” when it first came out last year. The 2017 vintage appeared at my local Dans a couple of weeks ago. What’s that like?
