Marlborough wine producer Rapaura Springs has announced the purchase of a 365ha property with an established 130ha vineyard in the Awatere Valley for an undisclosed sum. They had been buying grapes from the property for five years and snapped it up when it came on the market rather than risk losing a property that would potentially produce about 30% of their grape supply.

Rapaura Springs co-owner, Ian Wiffin, told Stuff that they had a secure market and were keen on purchasing more vineyards.

Rapaura Springs co-owner, Ian Wiffin, told Stuff that they had a secure market and were keen on purchasing more vineyards. The company is best known for its award-winning Reserve Sauvignon Blanc which retails for around NZD $18.99 a bottle. The wine has won 95 points from me for each of its last three vintages.

Vineyard prices range from NZD $150,000 to NZD $350,000 a hectare depending on soil, aspect, water supply and frost risk.
