Champagne imports into Australia grew by a massive 23% in value and 15.5% in volume during 2016-17.

With regard to Champagne, Australia imported 8,534,000 bottles valued at AUD $210 million.And, on the other hand, sparkling wine became Australia’s fastest growing export wine category, growing at six times the rate of other wines.

These are the two big news items in Tyson Stelzer’s annual Australian Sparkling Report 2018. This comprehensive 77-page analysis covers all bubbly wine including Champagne and addresses the prosecco issues.

With regard to Champagne, Australia imported 8,534,000 bottles valued at AUD $210 million.

With regard to our fizzy exports, Stelzer observes “2017 was the year the world discovered Australian sparkling wine”. He reserves special enthusiasm for the Tasmanian bubble business.
