Margaret River Gourmet Escape and book
I was excited to receive a review copy last week of the history of Margaret River, The Way It Was, by Peter Forrestal and Ray Jordan, as a warm-up to visiting the region next week for its 50th-anniversary celebrations. The book, which has taken the two Perth-based wine writers a decade to research and write, will be launched during the Margaret River Gourmet Escape, expanded this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
I’ve already read several snatches and found them very entertaining, such as David Hohnen talking about his twin Jimmy Watson trophy wins, and the involvement of Robert Mondavi with the Horgan family in the early days of Leeuwin Estate. This is not dry-as-dust history: it really lives.
A fuller review of this book will follow.
I’m looking forward to getting involved in several tastings and dinners at the Margaret River Gourmet Escape on November 16th to 19th. I’m sure there are some tickets still available for various events. The Gourmet Village at Leeuwin Estate on both Saturday and Sunday looks especially inviting.
