International Grenache Day is on September 14th & 15th this year, and the Australian epicentre appears to be McLaren Vale.

Wineries will be staging their own events such as dinners. Serafino has a dinner in its winery restaurant on the 14th with special guest Amanda Yallop, head sommelier at Sydney’s Quay restaurant. It’s a BYO grenache dinner; tickets are AUD $60. Kay Brothers Amery will be celebrating on the 16th with a tasting of five flights of wines at midday accompanied by a charcuterie platter, cost AUD $40. Bookings on the website.

If you want to find a good wine in your price range to celebrate with, click here to go to the Huon Hooke website and view recently tasted grenache wines. You’ll find heaps.

There are rather a lot of international days on which a particular grape variety is celebrated. There’s a day for malbec, sauvignon blanc, cabernet, even one for carménère. Champagne Day is coming up, on October 20. Here is a pretty good list.
