Quartz Reef Méthode Traditionnelle 2012, Central Otago, NZD $45.50

A blend of 91% chardonnay with pinot noir. Aged in bottle on the lees for 46 months. Take care when you open it – a previous vintage emptied half its contents onto my computer while this bottle, though handled carefully, also lost perhaps half a glass of wine. I can forgive the wine for being a bit boisterous when I taste its deliciously bready/brioche and toasty flavours with suggestions of roasted nut and bran biscuit. Delightfully dry, but not austere wine with good weight and a lingering finish. (Cork)
