Tom trio out now
A heads-up to let you know that Church Road have just released the latest three-label range of “Tom” from the highly rated Hawkes Bay 2014 vintage. They are 2014 Church Road Tom Chardonnay (NZD $150), 2014 Church Road Tom Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon (NZD $200) and 2014 Church Road Tom Syrah (NZD $200).
I couldn’t attend the release tasting but hope to get a chance to try all three wines at some stage. This iconic “no-expense-spared” label is a small production wine that now attracts some interest from collectors and investors. The wines are pricey but in the past, have delivered stellar quality.
The release coincides with the 120th anniversary of the Church Road winery, which was built in 1897. Pernod Ricard NZ (then known as Montana Wines) purchased the winery and refurbished it about 30 years ago (from memory). It is certainly worth a visit of you are on the Hawke’s Bay wine trail. Attractions include a guided tour of winery and wine museum and limited production wines available only through the cellar door.
