Aromatic and vibrant
Coates The GSM 2015, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek, AUD $25
I have tried this GSM blind on two separate occasions, and both times it has impressed me. Though I have rated it slightly higher than a few months ago as the wine has blossomed with time in bottle.
Grenache, shiraz and mourvèdre were co-fermented, of which 35% were whole bunches, followed by maturation in mainly older oak. The nose is bright and snappy with red currants, rose petals, subtle clove and a little musk. The palate has alluring just-ripe raspberry flavours that are mouth-watering and delicious. It is a lighter-bodied style, vibrant and spirited, that is drinking beautifully now. (Screwcap)
