Buy of the Week NZ

Clark Estate Block 8 Riesling 2016, Marlborough, NZD $21

Medium riesling with lime, citrus, wild flower and subtle salty mineral flavours. Tangy acidity balances initial sweetness to give a crisp, mouth-cleansing finish. A solid varietal style that should develop well. (Screwcap)

Have had holiday home in Marlborough (Sounds) for ten years. Moved here permanently two weeks ago. Love wine but – albeit I’m starting to tune into the different terriors – will always be a novice. Yet still wineries listed here I’ve not heard of. I mean the ‘real’ vineyards such as this – on that, Clark Estate has a nice site, although it doesn’t mention if they run a cellar door?

I constantly see Marlborough wines in supermarket I’ve never heard of, either, but many of which I’d started to become suspect of, which was confirmed by your piece on the Marlborough voluntary wine quality branding (reading between the lines on why such branding is needed). A great idea as there seems to be imposters via labelling.
