Holly’s Garden Pinot Gris 2015, King Valley, AUD $28
This is a very complex wine with a lot going on so it is worth sipping slowly with purpose. Made from grapes grown in the high-altitude Whitlands area of the King Valley. Strong lemon-scented aromas with a touch of parsnip and starfruit. There is also some rich custard and burnt toffee notes. It is very expressive and flavoursome with delicious mouth-watering acidity, which defines and lengthens the palate. There is also gorgeous subtle texture. Yes, it is fruity, but this is balanced by savouriness.
The more I taste it, the more I love it, as it gets better the longer it is opened. I adore wines like this – they command you to like them – you have no choice. (Screwcap)
