The new Bel & Brio bottle shop officially opened last week in Sydney’s newest precinct, Barangaroo. The wine shop is run by Jon Osbeiston, a legend in Sydney wine retailing, formerly of Prince Wine Store, Ultimo Wine Centre and many other wine outlets. His offsider is Nick Minogue, who also worked with Osbeiston at Prince, and Steve Blandford – formerly of Cremorne Cellars – is also helping out. The range includes 2,000 bottles and the focus is on Italian, French and Australian, with small as well as iconic wineries featured.

The beautifully fitted-out wine shop is part of the Bel & Brio complex, which has five parts: dining, bar, groceries, coffee and wine. Covering 800 square metres, it’s designed like a European emporium.

There are two eating spaces: a casual eatery and the Bar & Dining space which seats 240 guests, including the laneway. A mezzanine private dining and events space seating up to 20 guests will open later.

Osbeiston curated the restaurant wine-list and the cellars, and will run a program of wine events and tastings for the Bel & Brio community. The wine list runs to 400 wines, with 20 by the glass.
