Angove Long Row Merlot, South Australia 2014, $10
This is remarkably good wine and excellent value for money. It’s young and simple, perhaps even callow, with bright, fresh plum juice aroma and flavour; medium-bodied and lively. The tannins have no green or sappy edginess – a common affliction of cheap merlot. (14.5 per cent alcohol; screw cap.)
