Paladino Sangiovese, Puglia 2014 $15
Even a cheap red can have distinctive Italian-ness. It’s mid red/purple coloured and the bouquet is secondary, developed with savoury, slightly burnt aromas which are decidedly un-Australian. The palate is light and soft, smooth-textured and easy-going. A pleasant light, quaffing red with a distinctive personality. (12 per cent alcohol; screw cap.) Score 88 ★★★½ – view on huonhooke.com
