New winemaker at Akarua
Akarua’s winemaker, Matt Connell, has resigned to develop his own wine brand and to do some contract winemaking. His replacement at Akarua (tastings) is Andrew Keenleyside (pictured), previously Matt’s assistant winemaker.
Andrew takes over just as it was announced that Akarua 2013 Pinot Noir (tasting) had won the trophy for top Pinot Noir at the NZ International Wine Show. The same wine also won top trophy at last year’s competition.
Andrew graduated from Massey University with an Applied Science degree before spending three years as a vineyard manager and a further seven years working in California, Germany and Oregon. He joined Akarua in 2009.
