Craggy Range Sophia Merlot Cabernet, Hawkes Bay 2013 $85
This is a stylish, polished red of superb balance and refinement, one of Craggy’s best ever. The colour is deep and dark, the bouquet summons dried herbs and blackcurrant, reminding more of cabernet than merlot perhaps, the palate lush in blackberry, cassis fruit and soft, fine-grained tannins. The fruit ripeness is spot-on. (Cork; 13.5 per cent alcohol.) Score 96 ★★★★★ – view on huonhooke.com
