Wine Of The Week

Mondillo 2013 Pinot Noir, Central Otago $45

Bendigo, Central Otago’s most recently developed sub-region (although it has been producing wine for what seems like a dozen years) is a district of many parts making it difficult to generalise about the style of Pinot Noir produced there. I find most have encouragingly ripe flavours, but many have a rather flat ink-like texture that doesn’t appeal. Mondillo’s vineyard, fairly high up the slope, is one of my very favourite Bendigo wines (Quartz Reef is another). It has a pleasing richness and generosity of texture, with a nice mix of bright cherry and plum together with earthy and savoury characters. Score: 96 ★★★★★ – view on bobcampbell.nz
