McLeish Estate Semillon, Hunter Valley 2013 $35

A superb year for Hunter semillon. Made by Andrew Thomas for the growers, Bob McLeish and family. The bouquet is starting to show some toast and straw from development, together with lemon-butter and lemongrass notes. It’s very intense, refined, pure and squeaky-clean: a delicious young wine with a big future. (10.5 per cent alcohol). Aging: Now to eight-plus years. Score: 93 – Huon’s Wine 360
