Coates The Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills 2013 $25 Value: very good

This semillon-driven blend has a rich, oak-kissed bouquet with cedar and fresh-almond nuances. It’s full and dry in the mouth, with a well balanced grip. The oak is evident and it will reward a little cellar-time. A powerful style with stacks of flavour, if not subtlety. Now to three years. 13 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: asparagus gratin

Stockists: Annandale Cellars and Vintage Blue, Sydney; Casa De Vinos, Melbourne
