Wine Of The Week

St Huberts Cabernet Sauvignon, Yarra Valley 2012 $35 Value: outstanding

Both St Huberts reds, the cheaper cabernet merlot and this one, are superb wines and excellent value for money in 2012. This is a traditional Yarra cabernet sauvignon with moderate alcohol and correct but not overdone ripeness. The bouquet suggests violets, with nicely harmonised fruit and oak. It’s tight and powerful, precise and firmly concentrated on the palate; a beautiful cabernet that needs time and is full of potential. Best in three to 25 years. 13 per cent alcohol. 94/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: roast leg of lamb; aged Beaufort or Gruyere cheese

Stockists: Templestowe Cellars, Melbourne; IGA East Lindfield, Sydney
