Mommessin Brouilly Chateau de Pierreux, Beaujolais 2012 $20 Value: very good

The bouquet could not be anything other than Beaujolais, with its attractively clean aromas of gamay fruit – lightly meaty, herbal and cherry-like. It’s light to medium-bodied with a balanced but persistent skein of tannins across the palate: soft, but adding authority and grip. Drink now to six years. 12.5 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: pork belly

Stockists: Dan Murphy’s stores
