2014 Vin de Champagne Awards finalists announced
Twelve finalists have been announced in the 2014 Vin de Champagne Awards.
The finalists, six in each category (professional and amateur) were selected on written examinations, and will come to Sydney on September 22 for the final assessments. These consist of a tasting exam and a face-to-face exam before of a panel of former winners, which comprises Peter Bourne, Bernadette O’Shea and myself.
This is the 40th Vin de Champagne Awards in Australia, which has a longstanding relationship with the Champagne region and is currently the sixth largest export market for Champagne wine.
The professional section finalists are Peta Baverstock of Loaves & Fishes, SA; Pascale Fayd’herbe of Singlefile Wines (tastings), WA; Annette Lacey of the Sydney Wine Academy, NSW; Erin Larkin of Lamont’s Wine Store, WA; Cam O’Keefe of Harry & Frankie restaurant, VIC; and Amanda Reboul of RBL International, QLD.
Amateur section finalists are Tim Heath, NSW; Ross Kennedy, VIC; Elizabeth Rusiti, NSW; Michael Solomons, NSW; Saskia Valenti, WA and Tom Warrell, NSW.
Following the judging, the awards will be presented at a gala black-tie dinner for 100 guests at the Centennial Hotel, where 15 Champagnes will be matched to a menu presented by Justin North.
At stake is the prize of a two-week educational tour of Champagne for the two winners, where they will be hosted by the Comité Champagne. The results will be posted here next week.
