From $20-$35

Allegrini Valpolicella DOC, Veneto 2011 $26 Value: excellent

This has superior depth of colour and flavour for a basic Valpolicella, well above its station. The aroma is shy and youthful, with a little meatiness together with lightly floral black fruits. It’s full-bodied and grippy, with very ripe, rich, black fruit flavours. Now to six years. 13 per cent alcohol. 89/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: aged parmesan cheese

Stockists: Vintage Cellars Brighton (Melbourne); Shorty’s Liquor CBD, Sydney
