Wine Of The Week

Richmond Grove Watervale Riesling, Clare Valley 2012 $24 Value: excellent

Richmond Grove produces one of the best and most consistent rieslings in Clare but it’s often overlooked in the rush for the more fashionable labels. The colour is bright light-to-medium yellow and the aromas are of lemon-pith and fresh herbs, pristine and spanking fresh, with a touch of clean yeastiness. In the mouth, it’s soft and intense, fine and long, with chalky texture and excellent balance. It’s very youthful at two years old, bright and energetic, promising much for the future. Drink now to eight years. 12.2 per cent alcohol. 94/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: pan-fried whiting, baked snapper, salmon gravlax, sashimi, scallop ceviche

Stockists: many fine wine retailers, including Vintage Cellars, Dan Murphy’s and 1st Choice Liquor
