Wine Of The Week

Shadowfax Chardonnay, Macedon Ranges & Geelong 2012 $30

Matt Harrop and his team at the Shadowfax winery at Werribee craft excellent wines from a number of Victorian regions. Their pure-Macedon Black Label Chardonnay ($45) is the flagship white, but this is also a superb chardonnay at a very fair price. It’s bright medium-yellow in colour, forward and very approachable, with a complex bouquet of roasted hazelnut, lemon butter and nougat. It’s rich and full-bodied in the mouth, with a clean, dry, satisfying finish and aftertaste which lingers on. You’ll want another glass. Now to five years. 13 per cent alcohol. 92/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: roasted, stuffed free-range chook; crayfish or marron grilled in the shell with butter, garlic and white wine

Stockist: Annandale Cellars and Cremorne Cellars
