Wine Of The Week

Metala Single Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, Langhorne Creek 2012 $23

Formerly labelled Stonyfell Metala, this wine has always come from the same vineyard, owned by the same family, first planted in 1881. The Metala wine itself dates from 1959 and these days is made at Saltram – part of the Treasury group. It’s a reliable wine which excels in the top seasons such as 2012. The colour is deep and bright; the bouquet rich and ripe with dark-berry aromas, the cabernet component easily discernible. It’s rich and full-bodied in the mouth, sweet berry flavours backed by soft, powdery tannins. An honest wine, great value, offering proven cellaring potential as well as immediate drinkability. Now to 18 years. 14 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: all red meats especially barbecued sausages, and harder cheeses, such as cheddar
