Wine Of The Week

Saltram Pepperjack Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Valley 2012 $24-$28

The Pepperjack brand consistently offers terrific value for money in shiraz and cabernet. Indeed, winemakers Shavaughn Wells and Richard Mattner have lifted all the Saltram reds to a new level. This one, from an unusually good cabernet vintage in the Barossa, has rich blackberry and spice aromas of freshness and varietal typicity. It’s elegant and medium-bodied in the mouth, with supple tannins and smooth texture. The fruit ripeness is spot-on, and oak has been deftly handled. It’s a very good wine and great value, especially when discounted – as it often is. Best 2015 to 2026. 14 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360
