Wine Of The Week

Juniper Crossing Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Margaret River 2013 $20

Mark Messenger, the winemaker at Juniper Estate, is doing good things across the board, especially with the Bordeaux varieties, both red and white, which so suit Margaret River. This is a ripe and typical example of a classic regional blend, showing dried-herb and straw aromas with a trace of snow-pea. It’s light and dry, clean and refined in the mouth, with lots of lemongrass, straw and herb-like characters, but happily not too green. Its savouriness and lack of strident greenness make it a good food wine. Now to four years. 12.5 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360
