Purple Hen Phillip Island Viognier, Gippsland 2013 $28

This superb wine was made by Pip Farr, which may explain the style (and quality) link with the outstanding By Farr viogniers. Mid-yellow, it has a complex bouquet of spices, stone-fruits, smoky sulfides and nutty echoes of barrel ferment. It’s richly flavoured and fascinating. Balance is the key.
