Wine Of The Week

Awatere River Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough 2013 $12

Savvy lovers, gather around, this just might be the bargain of the year for you! Made by Louis Vavasour at his family’s winery in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, this wine normally sells for $23 but the online retailer below is doing it for $12. And I’m told there’s plenty of stock! The wine has a pale hue and unmistakeable Marlborough sauvignon aromas of peppermint, green herb and lemon juice. The acidity is high, bright and lemony, giving the palate good line and a refreshingly dry, clean finish. It’s very youthful, frisky and bright, and could benefit from cellaring, although it’s fine to drink now. A very good wine and a tremendous bargain. Now to 2019. 12.8 per cent alcohol. 90/100 – Huon’s Wine 360

Food: oysters, scallops, mussels, any white-fleshed fish pan-fried or poached
