Wine Of The Week

Watershed Senses Shiraz, Margaret River 2011 $27

This is no April Fool’s Day joke: a $27 wine which has a trophy and two gold medals around its neck, and is a really lovely drink. The colour is very deep, youthful red-purple and the bouquet has meaty, plummy aromas with a note of coffee-grounds from oak maturation. There’s fleshy richness and an almost decadent fruit-sweet middle-palate, balanced by ample soft, powdery tannins. It’s delicious now and will be even better if you can keep your hands off it for a year or two. Best drinking 2015 to 2031. 14.5 per cent alcohol. 94/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: grilled steak; roast lamb; shish kebabs; aged Heidi gruyere or Comte cheese

Stockists: Mischa’s Fine Wines Darlinghurst; Mona Vale Hotel; North Rose Bay Cellars
