Wine Of The Week
Home Hill Kelly’s Reserve Pinot Noir, Tasmania 2012 $55-$59
The winner of trophies for best pinot noir and best red wine at the 2014 Tasmanian Wine Show, this is a majestic pinot. Its colour is bright, youthful red-purple and the fresh aromas remind of dark-cherry, violet and spices with a hint of coconut. It’s very intense and bright, youthfully vibrant with elegance and power. Succulent sweet fruit is balanced by fine-grained tannins. Utterly delicious and promises to live long. Best in two to three years, but can be enjoyed from now to 2027. From Ranelagh in the Huon Valley, just south of Hobart. 13.8 per cent alcohol. 96/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
Food: roast chicken, veal, rabbit, pork – especially braised pork belly – and soft but flavoursome cheeses such as Epoisses and Munster.
