Wine Of The Week

Abel’s Tempest Chardonnay, Tasmania 2012 $25

Abel’s Tempest is the second label of Heemskerk, which is Treasury’s premium Tasmanian brand. This wine was only a whisker behind the Heemskerk ’12 at the Tasmanian Wine Show: both scored gold medals, the Heemskerk pointed top of class. The colour is bright light-medium yellow; the aromas recall spices, lemon butter and peach nectar. In the mouth, it’s rich and yet very refined. Intense, subtle and soft, with the merest hint of sweetness, its balance is impeccable and its taste delicious and more-ish, with a long follow-through. Enjoy now to 2019. 13 per cent alcohol. 94/100 (Huons Wine 360)

Food: prosciutto melone; raw tuna with wakame and wasabi mayonnaise; salt cod brandade

Stockists: Vintage Cellars, West Pymble Cellars, North Turramurra Cellars
