Wine Of The Week

Moorilla Muse Series Pinot Gris, Tasmania 2012 $30

Canadian-born winemaker Conor van der Reest is making some very smart wines at Moorilla, in keeping with the property’s stylish Source restaurant and Mona art gallery. This has a typical pinot gris medium copper-straw colour and almond-like barrel-ferment aromas over spicy pot-pourri fruit. In the mouth it’s rich and round, soft and full, with a long palate and acidity keeping it all fresh and lively. Good flavour, style and balance. It has more character than most of its type. Drink now to three years. 13.5 per cent alcohol. 93/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: cold prawns and mayonnaise; chicken poached with truffles; bollito misto; fish pie.
