Wine Of The Week
Kangarilla Road Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills 2013 $20
It’s rare to find such excellent chardonnay at this price these days. Like many McLaren Vale wineries Kangarilla Road has been increasingly sourcing its chardonnay from the Hills.
The colour is light-medium straw-yellow; the bouquet is impressively complex with nutty, straw-like and stone-fruit aromas plus subtle almond-meal notes. It’s very appealing. Some smokiness from oak is subtly evident. Intense and driving on the tongue with bright acidity, firm grip and aftertaste, and good depth of fruit flavour. A serious chardonnay of character and harmony. Best drinking now to 2017. 12.5 per cent alcohol. 91/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
Food: mixed roasted nuts; fish and chips; salt and pepper calamari.
