Wine Of The Week

Running With Bulls Tempranillo, Barossa Valley 2012 $24

This is a superb tempranillo, the best yet under this label (part of the Yalumba stable) and its quality is no doubt partly traceable to the outstanding 2012 Barossa vintage. Medium-deep red with purple tints, it has inviting chocolate, vanilla and dark-cherry aromas and is soft and richly ample, generous and round on the palate with volumes of very attractive flavour. It’s fleshy and smooth, with a long tail of silky tannins. The fruit ripeness is ideal. It’s a very good drink now and will only improve over the short-to-medium term. Best drinking now to 2024. 13.5 per cent alcohol. 94/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: braised meats; barbecued sausages; all hard cheeses, especially Manchego

Stockists: Kemeny’s, David’s Cellars Annandale, Chambers Cellars
