Wine Of The Week

Teusner The Riebke Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2012 $25

image

Kym Teusner and his team are regularly producing some of the Barossa’s best reds these days across a plethora of labels. This, their everyday shiraz, is as good as many people’s premium label. The colour is very deep dark red-purple and the aromas of dark chocolate, liquorice and assorted black fruits explode on the bouquet as well as the palate. It’s a big, full-bodied wine, bold and a trifle unsophisticated, but rich as well as savoury with densely packed flavour and abundant powdery fine tannins. It’s terrific value for money. Drink now to 2032. 14.5 per cent alcohol. 93/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: civet of hare, roasted venison, buffalo fillet steak, or any barbecued meats

Stockists: Camperdown Cellars, BWS and Dan Murphy’s
