Wine Of The Week

Westend Three Bridges Cabernet Sauvignon, Riverina & Hilltops 2011 $25

Made from 60/40 Riverina and Hilltops region grapes, this surprising cabernet won the Stodart Trophy (for best one-year-old dry red) in Brisbane last year. Excellent deep red-purple colour and a stylish bouquet of concentrated black fruits and well integrated high-quality oak. Intense and attractively flavoured in the mouth, with hints of mulberry and fine, emery-like tannins, this is a fresh, deep, lovely cabernet with precision ripeness of fruit. It promises to age well and reward the patient, although you could also enjoy it young. Best 2016 to 2031. 14 per cent alcohol. 93/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: roast lamb; slow-braised lamb shanks; wiener schnitzel; mature asiago, gruyere or comte cheese
