Wine Of The Week
3 Drops Pinot Noir, Mount Barker 2012 $28
Some very fine pinots have emerged in recent years from this Western Australian region, and Castle Rock Estate winemaker Rob Diletti – who made this one – is a key player. This pinot has a lot going for it, including the price. It has a medium-full red-purple hue and a voluminous bouquet that suggests spices and dark cherries. It’s light to medium bodied, with richness and nicely balanced fruit sweetness, the finish soft and fleshy. There’s a lot of character and charm packed into a relatively inexpensive bottle. Best drinking from now to 2020. 13.5 per cent alcohol. 94/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
Food: Peking duck roll-ups, braised pork neck with cabbage and mushrooms, spaghetti bolognaise
