Top Aussie Red

Picardy Pinot Noir, Pemberton 2011 $50

The colour is light red-purple and the aromas display cherry and smoky oak with some polished leather and foresty notes. It’s deliciously fruit-sweet in the mouth, with charming flavour and considerable complexity at such an early stage. It’s light to medium-weight with a fine backbone of supple tannin, and a long, long carry. Lovely balance. Now to 2020. 13.5 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: barbecued quail

Stockists: Wine Culture; Northbridge Cellars; Vintage Blue
