Wine Of The Week
Medhurst Chardonnay, Yarra Valley 2012 $32
Stand back for the 2012 Yarra Valley wines, which from all reports are sensational – and my early tastings concur. This is very good and well-priced chardonnay, made by the accomplished Matt Steele: it has a toasty/nutty barrel-tinged bouquet plus some buttery nuances, while the taste is delicate and refined, with grapefruit flavours neatly entwined with oak resulting in a svelte texture and lingering finish. Delicious chardonnay, but don’t serve it too cold. Chardonnay should be 10-14 degrees, much warmer than riesling or semillon. Drink now to 2019. 13.2 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
Food: oven-roasted scampi; seafood risotto; cold prawns with mayonnaise.
Stockist: Camperdown Cellars Leichhardt
