Wine of the week
Ross Hill Pinnacle Series Chardonnay, Orange 2012 $32
With winemaker Phil Kerney on board, Ross Hill has been doing very interesting things, especially with white wines. This chardonnay is tremendously refined as well as intense and complex, the bouquet showing some smoky sulfide nuances together with citrusy aromas, while the palate is zesty, crisp and lively, with restrained but intense pear, stone-fruit and tangy lemon flavours. A truly excellent wine that will have you wanting more. It also has the capacity to keep and hold its freshness for a while. Best now to 2020. 12.1 per cent alcohol. 95/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
Food: lemon-marinated grilled chicken; sautéed scallops with ginger and spring onions; lobster tails with mayonnaise.
