Freeman Secco Rondinella Corvina, Hilltops 2009 $35

A local take on the Valpolicella and amarone wines of Italy’s north-east. The colour is rather light, but it’s very complex and savoury, with smoky toasty, vanilla and dark-cherry aromas; the palate intense, firm and dry, with masses of tannin. It’s medium to full bodied, with loads of individuality and charm. Now to 2024. 14.5 per cent alcohol. 90/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)
