Wine of the week

Ravensworth The Grainery Marsanne Viognier Roussanne Chardonnay, Canberra District 2012 $30

This is different, and with that combination of (mostly Rhone Valley) grapes, it’s no wonder. With a bright, light yellow colour, it’s fragrant to sniff with spices, apricot and peach aromas, and a whiff of barrel adding an extra dimension. It’s beautifully clean, fresh and alive, with superbly fine aromatics and lovely palate balance and texture. It finishes soft and cleanly dry. It should hold its youth for a while yet. Best drinking is probably within two or three years. 12.5 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon’s Wine 360)

Food: grilled chicken soused with lemon juice; snapper fillets pan-fried meuniere; assorted freshly shelled nuts.

Stockist: Annandale cellars
